SMOKE FREE PARTNERSHIP EVENTS

This event launching the EU Tobacco Industry Interference Index 2021 aims to raise awareness of the renewed efforts by the tobacco industry to influence the decision-making process at EU level. The event will take place on 2 December, 11:00am Brussels time.

Brussels, 29 June 2021: The MEPs Against Cancer Interest Group, the MEP Heart Group, the MEP Lung Health Group and the Smoke Free Partnership held a special policy dialogue on ‘Europe’s path to the Tobacco Products Directive 3.0’ on Tuesday 29 June 2021 from 11:00 – 13:00 CEST.

8 June: World No Tobacco Day 2021 Webinar and Ceremony

The Smoke Free Partnership and the European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention with the support of the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe hosted a World No Tobacco Day 2021 conference on 8 June 2021 (14:00 CET). The conference “Tobacco free policy-making for a tobacco free Europe” focused on exposing, discussing, and counteracting tobacco industry efforts against tobacco control progress.

The European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention (ENSP), the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and the Smoke Free Partnership (SFP) invite you to the celebration of World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) 2019, a high level event and award ceremony, jointly organized with the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe on 11 June 2019 from 15:00-18:00. The session is supported by the European Cancer Leagues (ECL), the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC) and the European Public Health Alliance (EPHA).

BRUSSELS, 27 June 2017 – There is no Plan B for fighting illicit trade of tobacco products if the European Union adopts a tobacco industry-controlled tracking and tracing system, warned international experts and advocates. The calls were made during the High Level Conference on the Illicit Trade of Tobacco Products organised by the Smoke Free Partnership at the European Parliament in Brussels today. The conference was hosted by Francoise Grossetête MEP and co-hosted by MEPs Karin Kadenbach and Bart Staes, and aimed to bring to the forefront a public health perspective on the ongoing discussions.

SFP Coalition Meeting 2017

SFP organises its third Coalition Meeting open to all its partners from all over Europe. The policy topic of this year's meeting will be Tobacco Taxation- Article 6 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

Brussels, 31 May 2017– On World No Tobacco Day, public health organisations call for speeding up the implementation of the FCTC at EU and regional level, as a way to ensure the fulfilment of the Sustainable Development agenda.

Roundtable on Article 20 of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC)

12 October 2016. SFP organised a roundtable on Research, Surveillance and Exchange of Information (FCTC Art 20) hosted by MEP Linda McAvan. The overall objective of the roundtable was to raise awareness of and support for Article 20 of the FCTC in order to ensure this important article is no longer overlooked and gets the attention it deserves amongst all policy makers in charge of research within the European Union.

20-21 June 2016. SFP together with the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease,  held a 2-day Capacity Building Seminar that took place in Bratislava. The aim of this seminar was to strengthen the training developed by SFP in previous years in order to effectively support national, European and international policy initiatives in line with Articles 6 (taxation) and 15 (illicit trade) of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) as well as the EU approach with regards to taxation and illicit trade.

The 2016 World No Tobacco Day focused on plain packaging falls just a few days after the entry into force of the Tobacco Products Directive, which has greatly contributed to the implementation of plain packaging in EU Member States. This reception celebrated the Directive and the possibilities it has created for Member States to introduce plain packaging of tobacco products.

2 March 2016. The High Level Conference “Combating Tobacco Industry Tactics: State of Play and a Way Forward” was held on the 2nd March 2016 at the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was organised by the Smoke Free Partnership and the Belgian Foundation Against Cancer and hosted by MEPs Gilles Pargneaux, Karl-Heinz Florenz and Benedek Jávor.

30 September- 1 October 2015. SFP organised this high level conference in the city of Leuven in Belgium. Bringing together tobacco tax experts, European Commission officials from DG TAXUD, DG SANTE and OLAF as well as MEPs and the tobacco control community, this conference provided an opportunity to discuss the different perspectives on tobacco taxation and illicit trade (Articles 6 and 15 of the FCTC).

1 June 2015. This reception was organised with the support of the Association of European Cancer Leagues, the Belgian Foundation against Cancer, and the Smoke Free Partnership on 1 June at the European Parliament (18.30 – 20.00h) in Brussels

SFP Breakfast Seminar: Smokefree polices in Europe: Are we there yet?

With a keynote speech by European Commission Deputy Director General for Health and Food Safety, Martin Seychell this breakfast seminar celebrated the launch of the updated SFP Smokefree Map and provided a platform to discuss whether smokefree policies in the EU are honouring national commitments made under the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and the 2009 Council Recommendation on Smokefree Environments.
