The 2001 Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) was the first piece of major EU legislation regulating tobacco products. In the light of its revision, the Smoke Free Partnership is setting out what it wants to see in a new TPD; namely, compulsory graphic warnings and standardised packaging on all cigarette packs. -

Lifting the smokescreen: 10 reasons for going smokefree was published and launched at the European Parliament in March 2006. The report shows that passive smoking currently kills 79,000 European Union (EU) citizens a year: 72,000 of these deaths are due to second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure at home and 7,000 are due to SHS exposure at work. -
